Saturdays, Sept. 4, 11, 18 and 25 • 10:30 am – 12:30pm
Location: Shirt Factory, Studio of Betty O’Brien, 2nd Fl. Studio # 204 Maximum 15, Ages: 16 and up, Supplies included in workshop fee.
Exercises designed to free creative energy and stimulate intuitive responses to visual prompts with a variety of art materials. In each session participants will be presented with a means for combining basic elements, such as line and shape to create art that links to memories, ideas or emotions.
Fine Art Nature Photography with Cynthia Soroka-Dunn
Saturday, Sept. 18 • 9am-12pm
Location: Shirt Factory, Studio 120 Maximum: 10 Ages: Teens and Adults. Bring your own camera.
Spend time outdoors to learn the techniques for taking photographs in nature and then indoors learn how to get your photographs into the market if you want to create your own website, or on-line gallery.
Process of Writing: Connecting the Visual and Written Word with Bernice Mennis
Monday, Sept. 27 • 2pm – 5pm
Location: Shirt Factory, Suite # 120, Maximum: 15, Ages: 18 yrs and older
The written word and the visual world connect on many levels. In this writing workshop we will use writing as a way to follow the threads of the mind and heart. The imagination will explore texture, color, light, shadow, dreams, and images to give form to feelings that are layered, complex and deep.
Accordion Sketchbook Workshop with JoAnn Johnson
Saturday, Oct. 2 • 9:30 am – 1 pm
Location: Shirt Factory, Studio of Betty O’Brien, 2nd Fl. Studio # 204, Maximum: 10, Ages: High School age & older
Participants will learn how to make a 30-page accordion sketchbook, look at examples of sketchbooks by different artists and practice different techniques to fill their book.
Hand Build Clay Leaves Slab Plates with Dolores Thomson
Saturday, Oct. 9 • 11am – 2pm
Location: Shirt Factory, Studio of Dolores Thomson, 3rd Fl. Studio #312, Maximum: 8 participants, Age: 12 and up
Introduction to the use of clay in pottery using real leaves to create unique leaf plates adding decoration and texture. Participants will also choose glazes for their creations which will be fired.
Haiku and Collage with JacquilineTouba, Ph.D.
Saturday, Oct. 16 • 9am – 12pm
Location: Shirt Factory, Suite #120, Maximum: 8, Age: Teens and Adults
This workshop will introduce Haiku poetry as a stepping stone to creating collages out of a multitude of everyday materials or visa versa, either starting with random words or a selection of materials to write a Haiku poem and then creating a collage. (All supplies provided)
Two Day Chip Carving Workshop with Dennis Wilson
Monday, Oct. 18 and Tuesday, Oct. 19 • 9am – 4pm
Location: Shirt Factory, Suite #120, Maximum: 8 participants Ages: 18 & older
* Call early for materials and equipment list.
This workshop will introduce participants to chip carving, an ancient, traditional craft rarely seen today. Participants will learn to use a small knife to incise decorative designs into basswood or butternut to create beautiful objects.
Painting in Oil or Acrylic with Sheri Snedecker
Saturday, Oct. 23 • 10am to 1pm
Location: Shirt Factory, 2nd Fl. Betty O’Brien’s Studio # 204, Maximum: 10, Ages: 18+
This workshop will cover the techniques and processes for painting in oils or acrylics. Composition and color mixing will be coverer to achieve an understanding of color and value. Participants will explore personal choices in subject matter and work at their own level.
Branding Your Art with Kate Austin-Avon
Wednesday, Oct. 27 • 10am -1pm
Location: Shirt Factory, Suite #120, Maximum: 20, Ages: Teens and Adults
Learn how to brand yourself as an artist, think like a marketer, and learn the basics of social media to promote your art and you as the artist.

Teaching techniques of using pastel pencils to create a work of art.
Dry Needle Felting with Linda Buerkley
Saturday, Nov. 6 • 10am-12pm
Location: Shirt Factory, 2nd Fl. Betty O’Brien’s Studio # 204, Maximum: 7, Ages: 16 and up
This course will introduce the basics of needle felting, a craft anyone can learn. Dry needle felting is a matter of having a few needles, some foam, and wool in the form of roving or yarn. The sky’s the limit on design. You can free form or use molds.
